Home / Restaurant & hospitality buildout

Grey shell to opening night, documented the whole way.

A restaurant buildout produces two customers for the same footage: the contractor who needs proof of the work, and the operator who needs an audience before the doors open. We cover both across the Phoenix metro.

For the contractor

Tenant improvement work is invisible the moment it is finished. Nobody photographs the millwork install or the kitchen rough in, so every TI contractor's portfolio looks like every other one: finished rooms that could have been built by anyone.

Documented buildouts are how you win the next restaurant group without competing on bid alone.

For the operator

The months before opening are the cheapest audience you will ever build. A construction feed gives a restaurant a following before it has a menu, and it gives the local press something to run.

Then opening week gets shot properly: interiors, food, bar, staff, and the room full.

  1. Month 1Grey shellDemo and the empty box. The before.
  2. Months 2 to 3Rough-inKitchen lines, hood, electrical. What nobody photographs.
  3. Month 4Millwork and finishesThe room becomes a room. Best content of the build.
  4. Two weeks outTraining and platingStaff, test dishes, the bar being stocked.
  5. Opening weekDoors openFull interior set, food, bar, and the room occupied.

How it runs

  • Monthly during buildoutDemo, rough in, millwork, kitchen equipment, finishes. Vertical clips built for a countdown feed.
  • Two weeks outStaff training, plating tests, the bar being stocked. Anticipation content, which outperforms anything shot after opening.
  • Opening weekFull interior and exterior set, food and cocktails, and the room occupied. This is the asset that runs on delivery apps, reservations platforms and the Google Business Profile.
  • Split or single engagementThe contractor and the operator can each take their own package, or share one and split the invoice. Licensing is written for both parties either way.

What a month looks like on a restaurant buildout plan

Visits run on a set schedule, not around your construction milestones, so nobody on your side has to coordinate a photographer. A Growth month across two or three active sites runs like this.

  1. Month 1Grey shellDemo and the empty box, for the contractor's portfolio and the operator's countdown feed. The before.
  2. Months 2 to 3Rough-in and millworkKitchen lines, hood, bar build, booths going in. Vertical clips built for anticipation.
  3. Two weeks outTraining and platingStaff, test dishes, the bar being stocked. Consistently the highest engagement content of the whole project.
  4. Opening weekDoors openFull interior and exterior set, food and cocktails, the room occupied. The asset that runs on every platform for the next two years.

Where we shoot

Restaurant and hospitality buildouts cluster where the leases are. Downtown and Midtown Phoenix, Arcadia, Old Town Scottsdale, Downtown Gilbert, Downtown Chandler, Tempe, Mesa and the Camelback corridor. Bars, coffee, boutique fitness and retail buildouts are quoted the same way.

What a scheduled visit produces

A four-day fixed-camera time-lapse of a tile floor going in, and a demolition-to-grading sequence from the air. A buildout gets the same two tools: the time-lapse inside and the drone outside.

What contractors say

Having professional documentation of our projects gives us something tangible to share with future customers. It highlights our work, our process, and the details that set us apart.

Copper Frame Media offers a unique way to preserve our work while helping us market future projects. Having that process documented gives us content we can continue to use long after a project is complete.

Questions

Can both the GC and the restaurant use the images?

Yes, when it is scoped that way up front. Additional licensed parties are added at quote time, which costs each of them less than commissioning separate shoots.

Do you shoot food?

Yes, for opening sets. Ongoing menu photography is a different rhythm and usually better handled as a quarterly shoot than as part of a construction retainer.

Our opening date keeps moving.

Every opening date moves. The buildout visits run on a set schedule, and the opening set is scheduled once the soft open is actually on the calendar.
